What do meetings consist of?
Pre-med Tips and Tricks: One type of general body meeting to look forward to is a pre-med tips and tricks meeting! A major goal of Pitt AMSA is to help guide one another through the world of being a pre-med student, as we all know how stressful it can be. Throughout the school year, AMSA holds meetings in which members with experience share advice that will help you understand how to keep up with your tasks as a pre-med student. Whether you need ideas on how to build or improve your resume, guidance through the process of finding research, or suggestions for volunteer experiences, your fellow AMSA members are here to help!
Fun and Stress-Relief: This is another type of meeting you definitely won’t want to miss! We all know how important it is to take a mental break here and there. So take a break from your studying and come hang out with your fellow members of AMSA. We may be getting together as a group to do a fun and relaxing service activity or even grabbing some snacks and playing a game! In the past we have made cards for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as well as for the NICU at Magee Women’s Hospital, and we have held games of MCAT Jeopardy!
Guest Speakers: A great way to hear about the field of medicine and related aspects through multiple perspectives is by attending our meetings which feature guest speakers! We’ve hosted speakers such as Dr. Urish (an Adult Reconstructive and Arthroplasty Orthopedic Surgeon), an admissions representative from VCOM (a school of osteopathic medicine), an army physician, Dr. Jankowitz (a neurosurgeon), as well as students at Pitt Med and past AMSA Executive Board members. It’s always helpful to hear from those who have already been through the same experiences and faced the same challenges that you might encounter in your future.
