We all remember what it felt like to be a freshman pre-medical student at the University of Pittsburgh. Which professor should I take? Which professor should I definitely NOT take? Is it okay to take biology and chemistry at the same time? How do I get volunteering and research opportunities? How do I make enough time for all of this? These are just a few of the questions that overwhelm freshman.
As mentors, we can help take away some of the anxiety and fear surrounding being pre-med for freshman students. Not only will you gain valuable leadership experience as a mentor, but you will also get the chance to influence the lives of other Pitt students through both your successes and failures. Mentees are able to obtain valuable advice while forming new friendships with their pre-med peers. The relationship between a mentor and mentee can be lasting and priceless.
This program was made in an effort to help older AMSA members become leaders and spread their knowledge, while encouraging underclassmen to succeed as a pre-health student at the University of Pittsburgh. We hope you will apply to be a mentor or mentee and enjoy this experience that requires a very small time commitment, but can be largely rewarding.
